In many cultures, kids with albinism are called “ Children of the Moon”. As the moon casts its glow upon its children, they are vested with the pale ethereal skin they are most known for. The light of the moon complements the darkness of the night. Despite needing to stay away from the sun, they will shine in their own way in the midst of the night. The moon is riddled with superstitious beliefs, both good and bad. The same is the case for her children. While some believe people with albinism bring good fortune and are celebrated members of their communities, some see them as ‘living ghosts’ against whom violent crimes are committed. But at the end of the day, the moon is an important and beautiful creation, just like the albino people (and everyone else).
